Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for women?
Absolutely. A great part of Momentum’s students is women. More, we greatly encourage women to roll with us and break with the predominant male image.
What is the difference between BJJ Gi and No-Gi training?
Gi and No-Gi are used to describe the different forms of Jiu-Jitsu. In Gi Jiu-Jitsu classes we wear a traditional Gi or uniform, which allows you to grab the clothing of your opponent. In No-Gi classes we grapple without the traditional uniform but we wear shorts and a rash guard. In No-Gi it’s not allowed to grab your opponent’s clothing.
I am a beginner, what class do I take?
Any. All classes are beginner-friendly. We highly encourage beginners and will guide you step by step.
How do I sign up for the class?
No need to sign up, simply come 10-15 mins early so you have enough time to take a shower before and select the Gi if needed.
How should I be prepared for the BJJ class?
What should I bring with me? No specific preparation is needed. Though we recommend basic hygiene, taking a shower before and after the BJJ class, as it requires physical contact. Showers, towels, and shower gel are available at the facility. Make sure all finger and toenails are kept trimmed to avoid cuts.
For No-Gi class, a tight athletic T-shirt or rashguard and shorts (preferably with no zippers, buttons, pockets) and/or leggings will do. Rashguards are for sale at Momentum for 500 THB.
For Gi class, you can rent Gi at Momentum (100 THB per class). Underneath you can wear underwear only, a sports bra for women, or, if preferred, a rashguard and tight shorts.
